Kept (“Kept,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a local-first memory and reminder app designed to help you capture information, understand it, and remember what matters without keeping everything in your head.
This Privacy Policy explains what information Kept processes, how it is used, and the choices you have.
1. Information Kept Stores
Memories and App Data
Kept stores your memories and related information on your device. This may include:
- Text you enter into Kept
- Titles and summaries created from your captures
- Reminders and recurrence information
- Completion status
- Transcripts from voice captures
- Structured information created from your captures
- Photos or other media you choose to save
- App preferences and settings
Kept is designed to be local-first. Your saved memories remain on your device unless a feature requires information to be sent to a cloud service for processing.
2. AI Processing
Some Kept features use cloud-based AI to provide intelligent understanding.
These features may include:
- Photo understanding
- Voice/audio understanding
- Photo + audio understanding
- Ask Kept
- Other cloud-powered understanding features
When you use a feature that requires cloud AI, Kept sends the information necessary to provide that feature to our AI processing service.
Photos
Kept keeps your original photo on your device.
Before a photo is sent for cloud AI processing, Kept may identify and protect potentially sensitive areas on the device and create a protected version for processing.
The original photo is not replaced by the protected version.
Audio
When you use voice understanding, the audio you choose to process is sent to our cloud AI service so that Kept can transcribe and understand it.
Text
Basic text capture and text intelligence are designed to work locally on your device where possible. Cloud AI is used only for features that require it.
Ask Kept
When you use Ask Kept, Kept provides relevant stored memory context to the AI service so that it can answer your question.
3. Your Choice Before Cloud AI Processing
Where the relevant Kept setting is enabled, Kept can ask for your confirmation before sending information to cloud AI processing.
You can control this behavior from Settings.
4. Information We Collect for Service Operation
Kept may collect limited technical information needed to operate, protect, and troubleshoot its cloud services.
This may include:
- An anonymous installation identifier
- Request identifiers
- AI request and endpoint information
- Processing latency
- Usage and token-count information
- Success or failure status
- App and service diagnostic information
We do not intentionally include the contents of your memories in this operational telemetry.
5. Subscription and Payments
Kept offers optional paid features through in-app subscriptions.
Depending on your device and distribution platform, purchases may be processed through Apple, Google, Samsung, RevenueCat, or the applicable app-store billing system.
Kept does not receive or store your full credit-card number or other complete payment credentials.
Payment and billing information is handled by the applicable payment provider and app store under their own privacy policies.
6. Third-Party Service Providers
Kept uses selected third-party services to provide and operate the application. These may include:
Google Cloud and Google AI
Kept uses Google Cloud infrastructure and Google AI services to provide certain cloud-based AI features.
Information sent for these features is processed by the relevant Google services under their applicable terms and policies.
RevenueCat
RevenueCat is used to manage subscriptions and subscription entitlements.
RevenueCat may process information necessary to determine and maintain your subscription status.
App Stores and Billing Providers
Depending on how you install Kept, Apple, Google, Samsung, or another applicable store may process purchase and subscription information.
Security and App Protection Services
Kept may use application-integrity and abuse-prevention services to protect its APIs and cloud services.
7. What We Do Not Do
Kept does not sell your personal information.
We do not use your private memories for advertising.
We do not intentionally use your saved memories to build advertising profiles about you.
We do not require you to create a Kept account to use the core local-first application.
8. Your Memories and Deletion
Your memories are primarily stored locally on your device.
You can delete individual memories or use Kept's Delete All Memories function to remove your saved memories from the device.
Deleting memories from Kept does not necessarily control retention practices of third-party service providers that may process information temporarily as part of providing a service. Third-party providers operate under their own applicable retention policies and legal obligations.
9. Exporting Your Memories
Kept may provide an Export Memories function that creates a file containing user-facing memory information so you can save or share it using your device's normal file-sharing capabilities.
Exporting your memories is controlled by you.
Once you share or save an exported file outside Kept, the handling of that file is governed by the service or location where you choose to store it.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information processed by Kept.
Kept's local-first architecture is designed to minimize unnecessary transmission of your personal content.
However, no digital system can guarantee absolute security.
11. Data Retention
Information stored locally by Kept generally remains on your device until you delete it or remove the application, subject to your device's operating-system behavior and backups.
Information sent to third-party services for processing may be retained for limited periods according to the applicable provider's policies, technical requirements, and legal obligations.
We aim to retain operational information only for as long as reasonably necessary for security, troubleshooting, service operation, and legal obligations.
12. Children's Privacy
Kept is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.

13. International Processing
Because Kept uses third-party cloud and infrastructure providers, information processed through cloud-powered features may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own.
Those providers apply their own security, privacy, and legal safeguards to such processing.
14. Your Choices
Depending on your platform and location, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including rights to:
- Request information about personal data we process
- Request deletion of information where applicable
- Ask questions about how your information is used
- Withdraw certain permissions through your device settings
- Stop using cloud-powered features
- Delete locally stored memories using Kept's controls

15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when Kept's features, services, or legal requirements change.
When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this policy and provide additional notice where appropriate.
